Denver gives you six months of outdoor living — May through October — with the best weather in the country. The problem is most patios aren't set up to take advantage of it. A portable grill on a concrete pad, no shade, no seating, and you're back inside after an hour. A real outdoor kitchen changes that.
Peak Builders builds outdoor kitchens across Denver metro. Here's what's different about building one here versus anywhere else.
Denver Isn't Miami
Most outdoor kitchen content online is written for warm climates. Denver plays by different rules:
Freeze-thaw kills the wrong materials. Denver has 80+ freeze cycles per year. Wood cabinetry, tile countertops not sealed for outdoor use, and composite panels crack and fail within a few seasons. We use 304 or 316 stainless steel for cabinetry, sealed granite or high-density porcelain slab for counters, and powder-coated aluminum or stainless for structural elements.
UV at altitude degrades finishes faster. Painted surfaces that would last 15 years in coastal California last 5–7 in Denver. We spec UV-stable powder coatings and materials that hold their appearance without constant maintenance.
Gas appliances need altitude adjustment. At 5,280 feet, uncorrected gas burners run rich and produce yellow flames, incomplete combustion, and premature component wear. Every gas appliance we install is adjusted for Denver's elevation before the final inspection.
Covered vs Uncovered
An uncovered outdoor kitchen works May–October in Denver. Extend the season into cooler shoulder months and you want a pergola or roofed structure with infrared heaters. A fully roofed outdoor room — one that has walls, a ceiling, and proper weather protection — extends use to 9–10 months and requires a building permit with structural engineering.
We do all three: open patio kitchens, pergola-covered structures, and fully permitted outdoor rooms.
What We Build
Built-in gas grills, side burners, outdoor refrigerators, icemakers, sinks, pizza ovens, bar seating, and custom cabinetry runs. We handle gas line extension, GFCI electrical, and plumbing rough-in. Every outdoor kitchen is designed around your space, your grill preferences, and Denver's climate requirements.
Permits
Built-in gas work and electrical require permits. Covered structures over a certain size require structural engineering and a building permit. We handle all of this — we pull the permits, coordinate the inspections, and close everything out properly.
Getting Started
The first step is a free design consultation at your property. We look at the space, discuss what you use the backyard for, and design something that works for Denver's climate and your cooking style.
