Egress Window FAQs

The work involves cutting the foundation wall (concrete or block), excavating a window well on the exterior, installing a proper window well liner and drainage, and fitting the egress-compliant window. We handle all of it as part of the basement project.

We use concrete cutting saws to make the opening. The cut must be precise to avoid compromising the foundation structure. A structural engineer verifies the design for any opening in a load-bearing foundation wall.

One to two days for the exterior excavation, concrete cutting, well liner installation, and window fitting. Interior finishing around the window adds another half-day.

Window well covers prevent debris, water, and animals from entering the well. They're required in some jurisdictions and strongly recommended everywhere. We install covers that allow emergency egress — the cover must be openable from inside without tools.
